Verification systems score the line type before they ever send a code. When the score is bad, the code simply never arrives — that is why a cheap virtual number often fails where a carrier number works.

How can I tell whether a number is VoIP?
Check the prefix against carrier allocation lists, or simply test it: VoIP ranges are rejected by most major platforms within seconds.
Do non-VoIP numbers guarantee acceptance?
No number can guarantee it — platforms also score your IP, device and behaviour. A carrier number removes one of the biggest rejection reasons, which is usually enough.
Can I keep the same number for months?
You can renew repeatedly: each renewal adds 30 days. Many customers renew the same line for banking or Google Voice use.
